Random thoughts on The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises

So this week the final trailers for both The Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers have been released, and oddly enough I'm finding myself not so excited for one of them... I'll start this off by saying that ever since I can remember I've been a Batman fan. I read the comics, I watched the t.v. shows, I played with the toys...Yes! I was a Bat geek! Batman is and has always been my hero. On the flip side I was into the Marvel universe, but not nearly as much as D.C. I'd say in the past few years with their recent movie releases I have definitely become a fan, especially of Iron Man, he has quickly grown to be one of my favorite super heroes. Now on to the trailers...

The Avengers has been a long time coming, the cast is top notch and its getting very good reviews so far, so its no doubt that it will be a hit. I personally loved each installment of the Marvel movies, and the new trailer just boosted my excitement tenfold. It looks full of excitement, action and realism while still maintaining that spark of super hero fantasy that we know and love from the comics and Animated series'.

On the other hand The Dark Knight Rises trailer has left me with a sense of.... meh... I know I probably am in the majority in saying this, but this set of Batman movies hasn't been so great in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, the actors are superb, and Heath Ledger's Joker was PHENOMENAL, but I feel like Chris Nolan's version of Gotham city is a tad too realistic... I like the insane and crazy costumes that the villains have, I like the over the top action in the comics and Animated series'. I feel like they have taken Batman to an extreme that it shouldn't have gone to. The Beauty of the comics is that yes, we could see that dark and sadistic side of humanity, but it still had lighthearted hope that reeled us back out of the darkness. Gotham has become too dark and full of menace... almost too human... I'm a firm believer in not judging a movie till I see it, so hopefully I'm proven wrong about this, but I'm not holding my breath on this one...

The Avengers is set to open this Friday and The Dark Knight Rises is set to open 7/20/12. The Trailers have been provided courtesy of Youtube.com

Random thoughts about the new CoD

Well a few days ago rumors started to float around about the new Call of Duty game being announced in the near future, turns out, these rumors were right. Activision has officially revealed the Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 web site. Even better is information has leaked from unnamed sources. Apparently the game is to be set in the near future, and will delve into the dark secrets of the modern cold war. According to @ign the trailer is set to be revealed later today. I don't know about you guys, but I loved the first Black ops, not only was it a top notch shooter, it dove into the bizarre psychological aspect of war. I think its a little strange that they are skipping that far forward with the next iteration of the series, but hopefully there is still some ties to the characters who have been in the previous games. So far the game is set to be released on 11/13/12, and Its no doubt that Activision will deliver yet again with this release.
